At the Swaminarayan School we believe in the holistic education of the pupils. To this end we provide our pupils with a range of different opportunities to take part in a range of different activities.
One aspect of this is providing sporting and physical activities for the pupils. This is done through Physical Education lessons, lunch time and after school clubs and sporting fixtures.
At present we have a wide variety of sport at The Swaminarayan Prep School. These include boys’ and girls’ football, netball, tag rugby, hockey, cross country, cricket and rounders teams that regularly compete in friendly matches against other schools and some all-day tournaments. The teams are made up of pupils from Year 5 and 6 classes. These teams compete regularly throughout the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms.
In addition to this we have a number of introductory sports matches, tournaments and taster sessions in order to promote a sense of awe and wonder and to gain an understanding of non-traditional sports. These sports are available to Years 3-5 and include: American football, netball, hockey, badminton, football and tag rugby.
We are always looking at the possibility of new sports and competitions that our pupils can participate in.
All pupils when playing at home or off site are accompanied by two staff members, one of which is always trained in first aid.
Our school aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives.
By the end of each key stage, pupils are expected to know, apply and understand the matters, skills and processes specified in the relevant programme of study.
